Market Wrap-up

President Trump said he will hit the EU with a 50% tariff rate effective June 1 due to no real progress in talks.

Interest rates increased this week in a volatile trading environment. The debt and tariffs headlined. The House passed the tax and spending bill, a jump in concerns over the climbing debt and Trump pressuring countries to resolve trade policies. Even allies like Tim Cook at Apple taking a hit when Trump said make iPhones in the US or else. “I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else.” Trump isn’t known for his patience and with little progress on tariff deals he is getting anxious as interest rates increase.

Next Week’s calendar unlike this week is full of key data and Treasury will auction 2s, 5s, and 7s. Monday markets closed. Tuesday April durable goods orders, May consumer confidence index. Wednesday MBA mortgage applications. Thursday Q1 GDP second look, weekly claims, April pending home sales. Friday April personal income and spending. April PCE inflation. Friday University of Michigan final May consumer sentiment.

This week. The 10 year yield increased 8 bps, the 2 year unchanged, MBS prices this week declined 28 bps. The DJIA -662, NASDAQ -474, S&P -155. Gold increased $164.00 on safe buying. Crude oil -$0.73. The dollar fell hard, the index -2.94 this week. Bitcoin rallied +5,132.
